Yukine’s karma form is clearly some sort of demon.
We saw references in Chapter 70 of his father locking him in a car trunk or coffin or whatever.
‘Course, we don’t know Yukine’s full karma form, but if anyone can determine it from the form Yukine took in Chapter 11, that could help out with the theory of Yukine’s past.
I actually did want to touch on that, but I wasn’t certain in my own search. I did uncover three types of winged yokai, but I narrowed it down to one possibility through legend and characteristic elimination. Since you want it covered, though, I’ll talk about the one I found.
This is the Furaribi. It is said to have the body of a bird, the head of a dog, and it is enveloped in fire.
Legend goes, there was a concubine that belonged to the late Samurai Sassa Narimasa. Her name was Sayuri, (Hiyori’s mother’s name. Coincidence, maybe??) and she was beautiful. However, Sassa had other concubines who grew jealous of all the extra attention Sayuri received. They spread a terrible rumor that she had started seeing another man.
Sassa took these accusations VERY seriously. Her murdered her, then took her down to the Jinzu river. He hung her corpse from a tree and proceeded to carve it into pieces with his sword, then proceeded to go after her family members in much the same way. It is said that these souls still wander along the riverbanks late at night, and will appear should someone call out, “Sayuri, Sayuri.”
The reasoning for this, is because the souls were not given a proper burial, making it impossible for them to move on. If you notice the background in Yukine’s visible memory, there are a couple of trees surrounding the area.
It’s a bit interesting; Yukine does have a tree that he takes care of, one that belonged to a friend. And since we really have no idea what was done to his body after he died, it leaves room for speculation. Another thing that points to it being a possibility is the fact that his wings look like they’ve been torn in places, or maybe… burned? I look forward to finding more out, to be honest.
