“40 is good, 50 is great, 60 is fab, and 70 is fucking awesome!” ~ Helen Mirren 💪🏻

missed some greats!

I can’t believe Julie Andrews is not on this list guys.

“It’s fucking outrageous. It’s ridiculous. And ’twas ever thus. We all watched James Bond as he got more and more geriatric, and his girlfriends got younger and younger. It’s so annoying.” – Helen Mirren on the bullshit that is (sexist) ageism (source)

Whenever you need a positive role model to help you remember that aging is NATURAL, aging is BEAUTIFUL, there is NOTHING WRONG with aging, and if you’re LUCKY will you live long enough to experience it – look long and hard at every single one of these these Queens.

LOOK. AT. THEM.

Go ladies!

Many women have talked about how amazing life is after your 40s. Some have their happiest years in their 70s. We need to stop believing society when it tells us our lives are over when we reach 35.

And not only are they still alive, they’re STILL VOTING. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU NEED TO VOTE AGAINST. GO OUT AND VOTE.

segregation: not actually history! actually within living memory!

Yes! These dumb bitches voted trump in! These damn boomer idiots could care less about us because they’ll be dead in 20 years max. We need to take care of us and the next generations. Vote against these stupid racist broads.

It’s 100% not just Boomers. It’s Xers and Yers and Millennials, too. Even Gen Z is part of it. I saw a busload of teenage MAGAs at a rest stop over the summer.

Don’t keep thinking it’s only old people. That’s what we GenXers thought, and now our generation is just as bad. It’s a continuing cycle. The racists of the world are NOT going to die out in 10-20 years. That’s a fallacy that leads to complacency. Young people are part of the problem, too.

“The name Hitler does not offend a black South African because Hitler is not the worst thing a black South African can imagine. Every country thinks their history is the most important, and that’s especially true in the West. But if black South Africans could go back in time and kill one person, Cecil Rhodes would come up before Hitler. If people in the Congo could go back in time and kill one person, Belgium’s King Leopold would come way before Hitler. If Native Americans could go back in time and kill one person, it would probably be Christopher Columbus or Andrew Jackson. I often meet people in the West who insist that the Holocaust was the worst atrocity in human history, without question. Yes, it was horrific. But I often wonder, with African atrocities like in the Congo, how horrific were they? The thing Africans don’t have that Jewish people do have is documentation. The Nazis kept meticulous records, took pictures, made films. And that’s really what it comes down to. Holocaust victims count because Hitler counted them. Six million people killed. We can all look at that number and be rightly horrified. But when you read through the history of atrocities against Africans, there are no numbers, only guesses. It’s harder to be horrified by a guess. When Portugal and Belgium were plundering Angola and the Congo, they weren’t counting the black people they slaughtered. How many black people died harvesting rubber in the Congo? In the gold and diamond mines of the Transvaal? So in Europe and America, yes, Hitler is the Greatest Madman in History. In Africa he’s just another strongman from the history books.”

— Trevor Noah, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood (via christymtidwell)

ALL OF THISSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Let it be known that I am black and Jewish and I am reblogging this. You can’t compare atrocities or genocides or massacres, that’s not what Trevor is talking about.

It’s about the different layers and perspectives and histories. It’s about forgotten peoples and vague estimates and how some people try to say what’s the worst when what they are really saying is “these people matter the most.”

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Exactly.Like for example in India, they have the MILLIONS of people who were killed by the hands of white colonialists during the time they ruled india for 200 years. Rarely anyone bothered to keep record of everyone who died fighting for the freedom of their country aside from a few freedom fighter leaders because unlike hitler, British rulers didnt count whoever they killed and just saw the death of those people as a stepping stone in their glorious conquest to “tame the savage people” of colonized countries.Indian history is painted red with the millions of people who lost their lives while being tortured and shot down by the british rulers and thats the worst atrocity towards humans any indian will come up with if you ask them. In India,as Trevor said, “ Hitler is just another strongman from the history books.”

A person who can befriend people of any political ideology is someone to avoid.

And they’re so smug about it too. That just means you stand for nothing. That’s nothing to be proud of.

So remember kids, being friends with people who don’t share all your views is a sin 🙂

Thanks for coming to my ted talk

You clearly don’t get the point of this post. You can have friends who have differing views, just not differing morals. A lot of political views reflect your morals. It is one thing to be friends with someone who has a slightly different view and has the general same morals and same wish for a common outcome. It is another thing when your friend thinks that it is ok to get women drunk to lower her inhibitions or doesn’t think that free lunches to children have value. Same goes for if someone thinks that PoC or LGBTQ people don’t deserve rights.

Have friends who have different religious views than myself. One of my coworkers that I talk to the most is Muslim, and I’m a recovering Catholic. That works, but I would never be able to be friends who thought that me being queer was a sin or who thinks that I shouldn’t be able to marry or have kids. You have to draw the line somewhere unless you don’t have standards.

Befriending a Nazi, allowing them comfort and kindness when they’re literally an advocate for genocide is helping them. It’s helping their cause. It’s throwing Jewish people, and all sorts of minorities under the bus under some misguided attempt at being “accepting”.

People’s political views are a reflection of their priorities. If you’re friends with someone who prioritize dehumanization, you’re a shitty person.

I can be friends with someone whose more right wing than I am. I can be friends with someone who disagrees on things like budgets, but if they disagree on what rights I have? Why would I wanna be friends with them? Why would I want to associate with someone who advocates for making my life harder?

This goes for all bigots and reactionaries, not just Nazis btw

The single most toxic thing I was brought up believing is that being Adult and Responsible and Good starts with doing everything completely alone and without help

What it’s really about is learning where and when you need help, how much help you need, and knowing when to reach out and ask for the help you need to function at your ideal level

People were never meant to live alone

shipping-isnt-morality:

i know this isn’t gonna reach any of the people actually doing this, but I really need to stress to people making “”””joking”””” threats online, especially targeted at creators, that we don’t know who the fuck you are.

just because you seem harmless to yourself, just because you know there’s no way you could or would carry out those threats, does not mean the person you’re threatening knows that. Credible threats to even moderately popular public figures happen. There’s no fucking way of knowing whether this threat from you, a hostile stranger, is credible or not.

“My age is in my profile!!!!” You do know that people lie about that shit, right.

Like, all else aside – artists and panelists at cons are now warned not to accept food or drink. They’re sharing strategies on how to prevent their merch being destroyed or stolen by people who object to their ships. They’re limiting meet and greets and increasing security, because maybe you’re personally harmless, and maybe your friend is too, but there’s thousands of you, and it only takes one person taking things too far.

Dont fucking threaten strangers. Don’t make somebody dig through your profile to figure out if you might want to actually hurt or kill them, or if you’re just angry about fictional ships. It’s a monstrous thing to do.

Since Lord Walder & his vast brood have married into nearly every noble house south of the Neck & north of the Red Mountains, do you think any of these nobles might intervene to save their blood kin if a vengeful foe was to try & dish out the Reyne treatment to House Frey? By intervene, i mean diplomatically.

moonlitgleek:

*head tilt* Not the Freys as a whole, most likely, but the Freys that are directly related to them. Like the Blackwoods going out of their way to make sure that the descendants of Walder’s Blackwood wife got out or just happened to be somewhere else at the time or some such thing.

The Blackwoods going out of their way to help the Freys, even relatives? Not bloody likely.

“And you have six sons, my lord, not four.“
“Once. Robert was my youngest and never strong. He died nine days ago,
of a looseness of the bowels. Lucas was murdered at the Red Wedding.
Walder Frey’s fourth wife was a Blackwood, but kinship counts for no more than guest right at the Twins. I should like to bury Lucas beneath the tree, but the Freys have not yet seen fit to return his bones to me.”

–Jaime Lannister and Tytos Blackwood, ADWD, Jaime I

And Walder Frey’s first wife was a Royce, and this is what Bronze Yohn Royce had to say:

She saw Lothor Brune reach for his own sword, but before the blades
could meet Bronze Yohn rose in wrath. “Put up your steel, ser! Are you a
Corbray or a Frey? We are guests here.”

–AFFC, Alayne I

Besides the Lannisters and sworn houses like Charlton, Erenford, and Haigh (participated in the RW, and tarred with the same brush), nobody’s going to stand by the Freys, especially in the Riverlands. The only people likely to do anything for their Frey relatives once the revenge starts are those who happen to have them living with them (like Anya Waynwood), but they’re not going to be intervening (even diplomatically) or going out of their way. They’ll just be keeping the customs of guest right properly. So, yeah, the Freys most likely to survive the upcoming slaughter are those who just won’t be there when it happens.

Besides, with the upcoming slaughter probably being the Red Wedding
2.0, orchestrated by Stoneheart and the Brotherhood Without Banners, I
don’t see how anyone could manage to intervene in anyway, not to mention if they would even be in any
position to do so. Not that they’d want to anyways. We’re being served a bloodbath where no one would
intervene, diplomatically or otherwise, to save the Freys, not based on
kinship, not based on innocence, nothing.
No one is going out of their way on behalf of the Freys, especially not for ties of kinship that the Freys shirked first.

racefortheironthrone:

Not after the Freys disgraced themselves and brought the wrath of the gods down upon them.

“I do not doubt that kindness and mercy and forgiveness can still be found
somewhere in these Seven Kingdoms, but do not look for them here”

This is the core of that storyline; the Red Wedding was such a grotesque crime that it changed the very social structure of the Riverlands. The Freys broke the natural order of things including deference to guest right (as Brienne was told) and kinship, and they are going to pay the toll by blood in an excruciating (and divine, Stoneheart being an incarnation of R’hllor) way. Ties of kinship meant something once, pre-Red Wedding, before they were blatantly and unashamedly broken. Now….. now ancient social and cultural rules have lost meaning. Do not look for them there.

The themes of the
story themselves don’t match the idea that someone would interfere to
save some of the Freys; as a part of a story
about a literal revenge zombie and her violence-glorifying band, Daven’s
wedding will be a slaughterhouse where many innocents will lose their
lives just because they bear the name Frey – because guilt by
association is a thing that both Stoneheart and the BwB condemn people
for – and no one would go out of their way to save them. That falls
right in line with Martin’s commentary on revenge quests and his be careful what you wish for theme. It’ll be brutal and will encompass all the
Freys present at the wedding and will allow us no room to feel
vindicated or satisfied by the violence served to the Freys as repayment
for the Red Wedding. It’d be the same as with Theon; we want the
characters punished for what they have done only for it to be so
horrifying that we end up screaming no, no, we didn’t want it like that.
Because the novels do have an anti-revenge message, and Martin did not
go to the trouble of introducing a revenge zombie to not use her to
hammer his point home.
