cardboardalien:

Hey su tumblrs I’m finally here to post a theory

So I never publicize my SU theories because 🤷‍♂️ anxiety be gettin me like that but this feels appropriate to post because I haven’t seen anything like it. Feel free to help out.

Ps! I’m just copy-pasting what I texted my friend because I’m not one of those fancy theorizers who know exact quotes n all

So I hear a lot of people talking about how Rebecca saying Pink Diamond did what she did partly because of White and everyone sort of jumped to the conclusion that White must’ve been really mean and or abusive to Pink because she was the same way to White Pearl and possibly Homeworld

But what if it was like

WD almost spoiled Pink?? As a “young” gem. Like not in a caring, over affectionate way but in a “go ahead and get it/do it because I couldn’t give two shits”

Like PD would come up to her wanting something and it was just easier to say yes

Not like pushover yes but like I said “yeah sure whatever”

And so when Pink is finally “old enough” or when she’s with the other Diamonds (maybe passed around to be baby sitted or some shit)

Or maybe something happens with White and her whole thing about being left alone so Pink just gets lumped with Yellow and Blue as a result?

Anywayyy Pink starts begging for her own colony and for like the first time in her life she’s told “no” by someone who isn’t White

And that’s that whole thing with the temper tantrum Stevonnie dreams about

Because let me tell you no one throws tantrums like that unless they’ve been spoiled before

And from then on, Pink gets told “No” a whole lot until she gets her own colony finally, which is when she lets up a little bit, just barely mature enough to run it until she sees Earth n all that Rose stuff

Because they mention that before Garnet, Rose was just “fighting for earth” which- and I’m going out on a limb- is kinda bullshit because yeah Earth is beautiful but I’m pretty sure there are other beautiful planets? I had another reason but like

Essentially before Garnet, PD protecting Earth like that might have been just “YOU TOLD ME NO SO IM GOING TO FIGHT YOU OVER IT EVEN THOUGH I DONT REALLY CARE!!!!!!” I don’t know how to explain it but I get into fights like that with my sibs all the time like we’ll be fighting over like a pencil and it doesn’t matter the value the fact is one of us wants it and the other isn’t willing to give it up just because fuck you

I think after Garnet, PD cooled off and her long running tantrum actually turned into a need to protect but idk

And that’s the whole of it

Lemme know what you guys think? I know it’s a lot but I’ve been thinking about it for a bit and if you have suggestions n stuff, please don’t hesitate.

Thanks for reading!

steven and homeworld

faelapis:

i don’t think SU is wrapping up, and i don’t think s6 will be the last one, either.

there’s one important reason, and it’s one i feel don’t get talked about all that much: steven does not yet truly challenge the homeworld system.

image

right now, his real focus is to get white to help him heal the corrupted gems.

even blue and yellow – who he’s in the process of befriending – still own pearls. they still rule absolutely. they’re still only friends with him because he’s pink diamond. they don’t understand rose’s reasons for leaving them, even if they’re more willing to listen than white is.

this is not all that odd – most gems in the crystal gem rebellion started for personal, even self-centered reasons, only later learning to have compassion for the wider causes of earth, justice, equality, and gemkind’s freedom.

the more i think about it, the more i think the crew were very clever in not bringing blue & yellow pearl along for this particular adventure.

image

if gems like jasper and nephrite are to have arcs of their own – which seems likely, considering how much orange there is on the timeline, how the crew loves to tease jasper’s arc, and how steven promised to heal centi first – then corrupted gems benefits from being addressed before the homeworld system.

the diamonds are not necessarily the “final boss”. gems like jasper, nephrite, eyeball, and to an extent pearl, shows that the internalized hierarchies and roles of homeworld gems are perfectly capable of reproducing themselves without their diamond present to support it.

image

pink diamond, too, could not change the system – not just because she was young and didn’t truly grasp the depth of it, but because telling her gems to be free as a diamond would only perpetuate it.

the system itself may be the “final boss”. not blue, not yellow, and not white diamond. this includes the hierarchy, colonization of other life forms, parasitic kindergarten reproduction, and the unquestioning belief in a type of “society first” collectivism that strips gems of any personal freedoms outside their designated roles.

image

this is also why it’s so poignant that peridot isn’t there – she has great concern for the homeworld hierarchy, her old home’s dwindling resources, and budding plans for alternative means of creating resources. things that will be important for homeworld’s future, but may be distracting now

the absence of these elements gives steven focus. he’s healing gems, not overthrowing the government he just kinda-sorta understands. yes, he’s been thrown down a rabbit hole where he will most likely confront some of these issues, but i highly doubt they will all be resolved right away.

SU loves to plant and payoff slowly – and that’s a good thing. we need to truly experience homeworld to explore satisfactory ways of untangling its problems. we need to address long-suffering characters, such as the corrupted gems we’ve grown to care for, to truly understand the depth of their devotion to their diamonds. moreover, they bring home how even perfectly loyal gems are – ultimately – disposable, for the greater society, when push comes to shove.

all of this helps us understand why rose came to hate her home planet and leave her family behind. seeing what she rebelled against, and why the system exists from the point-of-view of its rulers, helps us understand what steven can do. how he – as bismuth said – can become someone even better than rose. how the next generation can learn from the past to create a better future.

‘Steven Universe’ Showrunner Says Fans Are ‘Astonishingly On-Point’ About White Diamond

bismuth:

It’s been quite an exciting summer for fans of “Steven Universe.” The theory that Rose Quartz was actually Pink Diamond was confirmed, Ruby and Sapphire got married, Steven got Blue and Yellow Diamond on his side, and Cartoon Network has announced that the series will get a TV movie next year.

But fans seem to be most abuzz about the long-awaited debut of the most powerful and terrifying gem of all: White Diamond. In just a minute of screen time, White has left fans wondering just what kind of gem she is. And showrunner Rebecca Sugar says she’s surprised to find that some of the fan theories have actually figured out what she has in store in future episodes.

“I have seen some readings that are astonishingly on point about White,” Sugar told TheWrap. “And I’m really happy about that because she’s only been on-screen for a few seconds!”

Sugar credits the impact of White Diamond’s debut to her voice actor, Christine Ebersol, who has won two Tony Awards for her performance in the musicals “42nd Street” and “Grey Gardens.” As White Diamond — and her robotic, clearly abused Pearl — Ebersole chilled audiences with her condescending speech to Steven about Pink Diamond’s “latest little game” and asking him if he “got everything out of your system.”

While Sugar  didn’t want to spoil what lies ahead for Steven and the Crystal Gems, she did suggest that some fans’ early impression of White as a cold ruler with a lack of empathy for the Gems who serve her have been quite correct, and hints that Steven’s compassionate approach towards his foes will be tested harder than ever before.

“Let’s put it this way: On a show where problems are solved by communicating your feelings, the ultimate unsolvable problem would be related to that,” she said before abruptly exclaiming “Ah, I’ve said too much!”
