The preview clip features scenes from his fan signing/Q&A session in Oyama as well as his recent drawing of Levi in his work studio. The voice-over says “The series called Snk is probably ending… Is this for real?!”

the small details and joys that make One Piece so great

what I truly love about One Piece that it’s full of unexpected joy. I mean really, really unexpected joy. The kind that exists pretty much nowhere else. I’m not talking about Luffy’s kindness, because that’s connected the plot, part of the main storyline –  I’m talking about the little, absolutely unnecessary little details that could be easily omitted from the main story, yet, here they are.

Let’s take Buggy, is there anyone who tought he’d be more than the baddie of the week? Yet he just kept appearing, and the fact that he’s a Shichibukai now is just. Goddamn. Hilarious. We all know that he has no buissness doing any serious piracy, but damn, we can’t help but root for him at this point. Fake it till you make it, Buggy boi.

Or take Bon-chan, he started out as a annoying caricature, turned out to be pretty cool and then a noble-hearted dude after Alabasta. After a while, after we’ve forgotten about him a long time ago – Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark and Sabaody happened, duh – we meet him again in Impel Down!! A little friendship and kindness in the dark. How he helps Luffy through the hardships of Impel Down, rooting for him as he fights the poison, how he stays behind, sacrificing himself again is just. Wow. Bon-chan truly is the real MVP.

image

It would have been easy to write around him – don’t poison Luffy, let Ace destory the Marine ships at Alabasta, have Boa or the promotion-hungry Hannyabal open the Gates of Justice at Impel Down. It’d even have been way easier than spending the ink and pages on him, yet here he is.

We have Zoro, Mikawk and Perona, the three of them not only being polar opposites, but they have literally no reason or means to even really meet at all in civil life. Like, Zoro is with Luffy, Mihawk is either nagging Shanks or some random pirates, or pouting in his castle, while Perona is at Thriller Bark.

And yet, somehow fate – and Kuma – brings them together, and they became the wierdest and most unexpectedly candy-colored goth family in existence. Think about how we got to know Perona! She was just some random annoying one timer side-villian. And a few hundred chapters later she’s accompanying Zoro to Sabaody!! Simply because she was worried that he’d get lost!! And, as we see on the cover pictures, she even stucks with Mihawk after that. The only reason being is that they just simply got to like each other’s company during those 2 years. No villianous plot against our heroes, no planned revenge, no some mystery alliance, no further advancement to the plot. They just do everyday stuff like farming and playing with baby bears. Probably daydrinking a lot. Just two very extra human beings being absolutely mundane. I love them.

There was no reason at all, from a writer’s point of view, to bring back Perona. No one would have cared. These kind of characters are always kept separate, they live in different circles. No one even liked her – but this is just great:

image

(u bitch, as if you didn’t remeber breaking two of his).

Or, a wierd example at the first glance, Sengoku. Law already had his sob backstory, a truly tragic, sad, and well-written one. The amber lead poisoning, the whole Dofflamingo-Rosinante Tenryuubito affair, etc. It gave a lot of depth to the charaters, gave information about the Goverment’s corruption, reason for the upcoming battle against Dofflamingo. It would have been more than enough for Corazon to die saving Law from his brother. Honestly, it’s fucking tragic even by One Piece standards, where everyone and their dog’s got a past that makes you cry.

But there’s also Sengoku in the picture. We don’t really know anything about him, how he is as a person. It doesn’t really matter. But here it turns out that he too, like Law, loved Corazon as family, as a son, and now the only person he can share this feeling is the kid-became-a-pirate that he died saving. His grief, his connection to Law doesn’t give any plus as far as the story goes. It’s like Perona’s and Mihawk’s case – normally no other writer would connect two charaters as separate as they are.

image

Garp taking in Ace, saving the Pirate King’s son was absolutely crucial to the plot, to Luffy, to the main events unfolding on the long run, not that it takes any of his credit away. But in Sengoku’s case it doesn’t change a thing – he didn’t raise Law or saved him at Dressrosa. He could have been completely left out. He’s just another big name character, an antagonist, a fleet admiral who helped to kill Ace. Yet turns out he’s also just another human being, who grieves someone he loved.

Koala is similar too – she shoudn’t have been more than a plot device little girl to show us how bad the tenryuubito were and how kind Fisher Tiger was, maybe how the human-gyojin realtionships were going, but then! We see her again as an adult in the Revolutionary army! As Sabo’s partner! She’s a gyojin-karate instructor now! She’s alright and happy!! Like, it could have been just some other random girl, but then we never would have known that. Thanks, Oda.

Laboon! We all shed some tears when Luffy promised him to visit him after becoming Pirate King, didn’t we. And we kind of put him aside too – we knew it’d take a long time till they can meet again, and we’d just have to hope this scene woudn’t get lost by the – probably very eventful –  end of the manga.

But then! Then! We meet Brook at Thriller Bark!! A member of the original crew that sailed with Laboon! And they haven’t forgotten about him at all, they were planning to go back! And Brook still does, and can only be persuated to stay with them after hearing about the new promise. Now the both the old and the original one will be fulfilled the same time!!!

It’s supposed to be a small thing, bc what is meeting a whale compared to the grand events unfolding. But maybe that’s it – it’s so small, so “meaningless” in the bigger picture, all of these are, that it’s really just nothing but the endless kindness and love this series is just full of with. They are really nothing but a wonderful gift to the reader.

image

And the best thing is, they all work by the inner logic of their world, they aren’t just random lucks and miracles. Why wouldn’t Kuma send Perona to the next best horror island he knows? He sent everyone the best place possible, and Peronsa likes this stuff. Why wouldn’t Bon Clay be in prison after getting caught by the Marines? After experiencing what she had, of course Koala would leave her village and join the rebel army. Buggy did really serve on the Pirate King’s ship, escaped Impel Down, was at Marineford, buddies with Shanks, no wonder people mistake him for a bigshot.

(These are also great for worldbuilding – there is an actual, lived-in world with people and their motives surrounding our heroes. The Earth doesn’t revolve around them, after all.)

This kind of attention to detail One Piece has is just wonderful, we all know that – but what really makes is so awesome (and heartwarming) are the little unimportant events ones like these.

Hi! I just found your blog and I already love it so much ❤️ Lizzy deserves more love! Sorry if you answered it before, but do you think cielizzy can have a happy canon ending? 👀

cielizzydefencesquad:

Hi Anon, so sorry for this super delayed reply but thank you so much for your kind message! ♡

As for a happy Cielizzy ending…it pains me to say it but I highly, highly doubt it. Kuroshitsuji is a tragedy through and through. There might be moments of humor and lightheartedness sprinkled throughout but the overarching storyline is without a doubt a bleak and blood-soaked one.

OurCiel is tethered to hell and damnation via his contract with Sebastian – he’s going to get his soul devoured by a starving demon. And even if OC manages to finagle his way out of it, he’s still the Queen’s Watchdog. His very occupation could do what the demon failed to accomplish and wind up killing OC. (We honestly don’t know how this kid is going to fare without a demon butler aiding him every step of the way.)

And let’s not forget – OurCiel is suffering from major PTSD (+ a whole slew of psychological trauma) that he’s been repressing by sheer force of will in a desperate attempt to find and kill those who murdered his family/sold himself and his twin to a cult. But after? When OC has no absolute goal to work towards?

He’s going to unravel – and he’s going to unravel fast.

And Lizzy can’t fix him. Love is a beautiful thing but it’s not a universal panacea. Elizabeth can’t erase whatever torment OC went through and honestly, I’m not sure if OC even wants to heal. After all, witnessing every individual in your home get slaughtered before getting kidnapped, sold into a cult, accidentally summoning a demon, watching your brother get his soul devoured, spending 3+ years learning from a self-serving demonic heathen, being forced to confront his reanimated corpse of a brother, defeating him, and then implementing whatever end-game plan he has to escape Sebastian?

OC is going to be exhausted. He’s going to be forced to live in this world without a tether – without a purpose. What would OC want to accomplish with his newfound life? He’s killed those who’ve harmed him but that will never erase the absolute agony he went through. It won’t bring back Madam Red or offer him absolution from all the sins he’s committed.

And slowly, painfully, Elizabeth is going to realize she’s married a dead man walking. She will love him with all her heart but the shining bright-eyed girl of before will never again reappear. She’ll learn that laughter and innocent joy will never bring the boy she adores any happiness – only fragmented smiles and the pale imitation of what could have been. She will love him and she will be OC’s last remaining piece of humanity – his very last shred of sanity and his final reason for being.

But will she be enough?

If these two married it’d be bittersweet at best.

…Holy heck I just re-read what I wrote and I swear I didn’t mean for it to get this depressing LOL

I just love Cielizzy so much – but not as some perfect happy-go-lucky fairytale couple, heck no. This is one pairing that is going to suffer – there’s no peaceful end for them. No raising a child in contented bliss.

They’ll be the loveliest of all the Greek tragedies and I guess that’s why I love them so much.

My crazy naruto plot conspiracy: Hidan was the original plot device

ghostlykaijutsu:

opal-inu:

You guys all remember the good old days when Naruto had a consistent villain character? I do. That villain character was Orochimaru. You know the guy who wanted to gain immortality and all the jutsu in the world?

Well….here’s my theory: Hidan. Jashinism. Everything….was supposed to be the original plot device this whole time.

It all makes sense now. Hidan being the one and true immortal of the series was supposed to have a bigger involvement in the series. Jashinism was going to be a big thing….why do I know this???

BECAUSE OF THE BLATANT PLOT HOLES AND UNNECESSARY PLOT DIRECTION.

You see, the akatsuki had so much going for them, they had connections, they had power and at one point had some street cred….but where did it go? It went in the trash with the rest of the potential information we could have gotten if SHONEN JUMP DONE FUCKED EVERYTHING UP WITH SASUKE AND SHIPS.

We literally we going to get some serious info on kakuzu and Hidan….but no. That was scrapped for sasuke’s effect on the plot. Which clearly stated that even in a perfect world where nothing went wrong….he’s still be an ass-hat. A selfish, power hunger ass-hat. Naruto unfortunately had his development all based on if he was going to complete his goal into getting sasuke back. Literally. SJ and SP all drove the plot with sasuke being the figurehead. As for everything else, went down the hole because according to SJ, nobody (and when I mean by nobody cares I mean the corporate heads of SJ and SP) cared.

So how does Hidan fit into all of this? Well, you remember when I mentioned that Orochimaru wanted immortality? And lookie, so did Madara. Both primary villains of the show wanting to live longer. But they for some reason wanted to take power from what clearly was people who were just OP as hell. Yet, Hidan, who clearly won’t die. Who you can cut his head off and he will still judge your taste in porn….won’t die. So, if such a power existed yet Orochimaru (let me remind you he found DNA samples our every powerful shinobi and their mom in exactly every location of every part of the ninja world to create what logically should have been an indestructible army of zombies.) could find Hidan prior to any of this? I CALL BULLSHIT.

Since Hidan and kakuzu’s reception wasn’t well revived (by Shonen jump) their time was cut short, this left us with a movie quality back story that kakuzu offers and the eternal mystery that is Hidan, without answering any fucking questions. So we literally know nothing about anything and at the same time lost a perfect plot piece to the story.

Hidan literally became from a mysterious god whom we don’t even know if it’s just some con artist or a legit entity who gives people powers by performing ungodly tasks such as tortuous amounts pain. For all we know, he might have been born with power and was manifested on accident or some ridiculous thing like that. All we know is Hidan is naturally a sadistic lovable asshole with the mental complexity of a poorly trained dog. That he came from a once violent village gone soft with tourism. This is a man who felt his culture as a ninja was taken from him. This guy was some how introduced to a cult with some seriously confusing purpose and it some how fits his (strangely specific) needs to kill and torture. Then there’s the possibility Orochimaru was going to need a new vessel….this is a man literally travels place to place looking for oddities and overly special shinobi, a person like Hidan would NEVER go under his radar.

Which comes to the conclusion; Kishimoto had a story all set up using Hidan as part of the main plot until those corporal assholes decided “Nah, doesn’t sound interesting enough. We need more sasuke and naruto doing stuff and something with more romantic drama”. Kishimoto most likely had to scrap what could have been….a BETTER ending to Naruto.

It makes sense! The lack of consistency, the plot holes, why the akatsuki all died out so fast and most importantly why Orochimaru was brushed off to the side until the last few chapters of the manga. Because he was no longer part of the plot’s importance. Of course Kishimoto could have written him more, but guess what? We got the Itachi vs Sasuke arc! ….which instead of ending Sasuke’s reason to continue being an asshole only fueled more of the story’s pointless and endless yapping about the Uchiha clan. Itachi died in vain and we ended up with a friend zoned moron who was the puppet of a puppet of a puppet. Kishimoto had to come up with this all under time constraints everyone.

Why? Cus the guy who was going to be a seriously important part of the part of the villain’s main plan for immortality would come into play if he wasn’t scrapped and left to die in a hole.

Kishimoto had also confirmed in an interview that Hidan was his favourite Akatsuki member

There’s a lot of symbolism going on with Hidan that ties him to Orochimaru’s theme of immortality and Kakuzu fits with the original theme of the series (shinobi system, Service vs Being Used, village loyalty, etc). I too think that if Kishi would have been given freedom to write *his* story, both Hidan and Kakuzu would have played much bigger roles in the storyline

I would not have been surprised if Jashin would have turned out to be the endgame boss rather than Madara followed by Kaguya.
