The Discourse on Hiiro

I and many others understand the reason as to why Hiiro’s character and her arc may seem different and hard to understand at first.

A lack of proper female antagonists + a lack of proper writing for female characters in general × constant framing of certain traits associated with females as bad ^ MISOGYNY = mindset that looks down on female characters.

However, that is no justification for the stance people have towards Hiiro. There never will be a justification for such behaviour. That is because:

1. It is misogynistic so the field for discussion is already unfair.

2. The stance is hypocritical and every argument made can be dismantled easily.

Hiiro is stuck in the age of a kid/pre-teen forever.

Hiiro spent more time with Father than Yato did.

Hiiro is a shinki- thus she will always be controlled by those that give her a name.

Father gave her a name first.

Father needs a weapon. Hiiro is a weapon. Hiiro is his weapon. Father carried Hiiro around for a long time. Father carries around a child he knew for a very long time and treats her as a weapon.

Father has her become a Nora for many gods.

Noras are looked down on society.

Father gives her a home. 

Father lets Hiiro and Yato call him Father ; this indicates he wants the two to look at him as a parental figure.

Hiiro sees herself as Fujisaki’s child.

Yato sees himself as Fujisaki’s child.

BOTH were abused by Fujisaki.

A main theme in Noragami is Child Abuse.

Yato had Sakura to teach him to value life. Yato had intervention 

Hiiro did not. She had Fujisaki. She always had Fujisaki.

Yato has the ability to grow up. Thus he can make better judgements as he can look at his younger self and see the mistakes he made.

Hiiro does not. This does not mean she can’t reflect on her actions and grow. SHE TOTALLY CAN. 

The problem is that not being able to grow up makes it hard. Her existence is in a constant state of being a kid/preteen. She can’t look back and see if things are wrong so easily. Not when Fujisaki is is treating her the exact same way as he always had. Hiiro is unfortunately not in a position where she can self- reflect and see whats wrong on her own. Someone needs to show her it is. Just like how Sakura showed Yato. 

And now she does.

No one is obligated to like Hiiro as a character. Not liking does not make you misogynistic in the slightest. 

But that does not mean you can put up a double standard to justify your negative feelings towards Hiiro.

There is a reason Adachitoka had Hiiro be a girl and have her come from the same place as Yato yet stay there longer than he did.

There is a reason they framed the looking down on Noras as wrong.

There is a reason they made Heaven’s current status quo have flaws that let them scorn Hiiro. 

And there is a reason they want us to think that the status quo must change.

So to all of you that use such misogynistic reasons (slut-shaming) or victim blaming (Good Victim vs. Bad Victim) to scorn Nora – You are the people Adachitoka are condemning, you are the people they would never like as you are now and you are the people they writing to warn people to never become.

Youre the antagonists of Noragami.

So reflect. See just why you think that you hate her. And see if its justified. Re read the series, read metas, find out why people love her. Listen. You may be able to appreciate the story more bc of it.

This doesnt mean you have to love her. Or even like her. But to understand her.
